Symposium focuses on injuries caused by falling

The First-In Fire Foundation and the Los Angeles Fire Department recently held a symposium at Olympia Medical Center on injuries caused by falling. Participants in the symposium included John Darnell (left), chief resilience officer for the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment; Gretchen Swanson, of the L.A. Falls Prevention Coalition; Steven Rosenthal, of Olympia Medical Center; Matt Williams, CEO of Olympia Medical Center; LAFD Assistant Deputy Chief Jaime Moore, South Bureau; Lyn MacEwen Cohen, president of the First-In Fire Foundation; and Meg McComb, executive director of the Greater Miracle Mile Chamber of Commerce. Someone dies from a fall every 19 minutes in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The LAFD partnered with the First-In Fire Foundation, L.A. Falls Prevention Coalition and EmpowerLA to raise awareness about the potential for injuries and deaths caused by falling. For information, visit firstinfirefoundation.org.
