Ian G. Renner, MD, F.R.A.C.P., F.A.C.G

Medical Director, California Digestive Diseases Institute

Ian G. Renner, M.D, F.R.A.C.P., F.A.C.G. was one of the first gastroenterologists in Southern California to use endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreaticography (ERCP) to treat pancreatic and biliary disorders. He is the Director of the California Digestive Diseases Instituteof Olympia Medical Center. Dr. Renner is an honors graduate of Canterbury University in New Zealand. He earned his medical degree from Otago University in New Zealand. Following an internship at Wellington Public Hospital, he completed his residency in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, Australia. He completed fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology in Australia. Subsequently in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States he taught and conducted research programs. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Following a year in Japan in 1974, Dr. Renner brought ERCP to the University of Southern California, where he became an associate professor of medicine and published extensively in the field of pancreatic and biliary disease. In 1988 he left USC to establish one of the first tertiary centers for the treatment of pancreatico-biliary disease in California

Mehrdad Vosoghi, M.D., F.A.C.G.

Mehrdad Vosoghi, M.D., F.A.C.G. has joined Ian G. Renner, M.D., FRACP, FACG at the California Digestive Diseases Institute at Olympia Medical Center. He is specially trained in ERCP and EUS (endoscopic ultrasound).

He completed his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Los Angeles, California (UCLA). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Biological Chemistry, both magna cum laude. He graduated from the Finch University of the Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in 1999 after his undergraduate studies at UCLA. He received a Master’s degree in Physiological Sciences from Finch University.

He completed his residency in internal medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and continued his fellowship in gastroenterology at UCLA-Harbor Medical Center. He has conducted research and co-authored publications since 1992. He has published his research in EUS studying the patient experience with EUS guided pancreatic pseudocyst drainage and literature review of pancreatic pseudocyst management. In this study, he compared the success rate, recurrence rate, morbidity, and mortality of surgical, percutaneous, transpapillary, and transenteric drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts.

He has brought EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) to Olympia Medical Center. EUS is an exciting combination of ultrasound and endoscope to form an advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modality for examination of the GI tract, pancreas, and liver. EUS allows FNA (fine needle aspiration) of tissue and has become the “gold standard” for diagnosing and staging of various tumors. He has also used EUS to perform numerous celiac plexus neurolysis for pain management in patients with chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

Natalie Tran, NP, MSN, Program Manager

Natalie Tran is the Program Manager and Nurse Practitioner at the California Digestive Diseases Institute. She joined the California Digestive Diseases Institute in 2003. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 and her Master’s Degree in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner from UCLA in 1997. Her first nurse practitioner position was with Family Medical Associates in Glendale, California and she developed the first nurse practitioner protocol manual for the medical group.  Natalie is fluent in both English and Vietnamese.

Natalie's nursing experience includes hospital inpatient and outpatient clinic settings and her Nurse Pracitioner experience includes internal medicine, family medicine, urgent care, and clinical research.
