Southern California Sports Medicine Institute
Athletes test their body's strength and resilience every day. Whether you're a professional athlete or weekend warrior, sports and other recreational activities can place strenuous demands on the body. And when you're injured, you need care from a team that specializes in sports medicine - a team that has experience returning athletes to a pre-injury level of health in the shortest amount of time.
At the Southern California Sports Medicine Institute, our comprehensive program is designed to provide a broad scope of care for sports injuries. From treatment to prevention our focus is to help you achieve your full potential after injuries. We are dedicated to prompt, comprehensive, and compassionate patient care. On-site services allow patients to receive their diagnostic, rehabilitative, and, if necessary, surgical needs at the same location without the need for unnecessary travel.
Specialized Physicians
Unlike a general orthopedist, the physicians at the Southern California Sports Medicine Institute have either fellowship training in their sub-specialty or actively provide medical coverage for professional sports teams. Our physicians are board certified or board eligible. They have spent years honing their skills in sports medicine to provide their patients with an expertise above and beyond what a generalist can offer. In addition to their advanced training in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery, we have cared for Olympic athletes and have served as team physicians for highs schools and colleges. Our surgeons have remained on the forefront of their field through education and innovations, and they continue to develop new surgical techniques which they teach to other surgeons through local and national instructional courses.
Advanced Equipment and Technology
While the skills of our orthopedists are a significant part of the care provided at the Southern California Sports Medicine Institute, the advanced technology available is equally important. Top-line surgical equipment, including the latest in arthroscopic instrumentation provide our surgeons the tools needed to offer the latest in surgical capabilities. In addition, we offer comprehensive diagnostic tools, including CT scan, MRI san and X-ray equipment. We're committed to continually updating our technology to help ensure patients have access to the most advanced equipment available for orthopedic care.
Minimally Invasive Approach to Surgery
When surgery is necessary, our specialists prefer a minimally invasive approach. Thanks to the advances in technology, minimally invasive surgery has helped improve outcomes for patients, providing less pain and faster recovery. Arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgical technique, provides our orthopedic surgeons the ability to perform surgery with minimal damage to healthy muscles and ligaments. Using significantly smaller incisions, our surgeons are able to minimize bleeding and scarring. In fact, each has special training in arthroscopic techniques, including:
Shoulder:
- Removing bone spurs
- Rotator cuff repair
- Labral repair
- Shoulder instability repair
- Ligament reconstruction
Knee:
- Meniscus surgery
- ACL reconstruction
- Multi-ligament reconstruction
- Patellar reconstructive procedure
- Cartilage restorative procedures
Ankle:
- Ankle instability repair
- Ligament reconstruction
- Fracture reconstruction
- Joint debridement
Comprehensive Rehabilitation
Surgery is never a first option at the Southern California Sports Medicine Institute. Our comprehensive rehabilitation program is often used as a first option in restoring your health and returning you to your pre-injury activities. Located within the hospital, rehabilitation is provided on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Physical and occupational therapists in close association with your sports medicine physician develop an individualized treatment plan that caters to each patient's needs and abilities. Therapy is used for both non-surgical and post-surgical care to help strengthen and repair after injury or surgery.
