At Olympia Medical Center’s Outpatient Rehabilitation clinic, we ensure that our patients receive the most innovative and professional treatment. We work together with patients, their physicians and family, to develop and establish comprehensive, individualized treatment plans and goals for a prompt recovery. We use state of the art technology and evidence-based practice provided by our highly trained physical, occupational and speech pathology therapists. We collaborate with an interdisciplinary medical community to create a personal program for each patient within a pleasant and welcoming environment.
Our goal in the physical therapy clinic is to assist patients to recover from injuries and illnesses so that they can go back and participate in the activities they love and enjoy. We work on the source of the problems in order to restore and correct body movement, balance and coordination, muscle strength, flexibility, and joint range of motion. We strongly believe that by treating all these components we can help patients regain independence in life activities. We place major emphasis on the prevention of future injuries through treatments as well as patient and family education. We will design a treatment plan that is suited to each patient’s individual needs, using the following techniques:
v Manual Therapy (soft-tissue-mobilization, joint mobilization, certain massage techniques) in order to improve motion and promote soft tissue healing.
v Therapeutic exercises programs to improve muscle strength and flexibility, balance and coordination.
v Gait analysis and training techniques to enhance neuromuscular control and improve muscle sequencing.
v Bracing / taping to support body parts that were injured, to “unload” pressure and strain off muscles, and promote faster healing.
v Modalities (electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, light therapy, heat and cold agents) to promote healing and reduce pain and swelling.
In the occupational therapy clinic we provide training in motion skills and teach different ways of performing tasks that will improve patient’s recovery and increase independence. Our goal is to prevent or minimize cognitive and developmental disabilities, and to facilitate function and adaptation. We place strong emphasis on self-care education of daily living tasks, such as bathing, dressing, shopping, and cooking. In addition, we offer Hand Therapy Program designed to address work and non-work-related injuries, post-op surgical conditions and repetitive trauma to upper extremities.
In the Speech Therapy Outpatient Clinic, our highly trained Speech Language Pathologists treat patients with various neurological diagnoses, head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, and voice disorders; who have difficulties to communicate and /or think. The therapists develop treatment plans to improve speech, voice, speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cognitive (thinking) skills. For swallowing problems/ difficulties, we offer Videofluoriscopic Swallowing Studies that further evaluate the process and structures involved with swallowing. These studies help the therapists to determine if and why a patient is aspirating (choking during eating or drinking). Trial treatment strategies are used during the study in order to recommend the most suitable diet and the safest way for the patient to eat and drink.
