Physical Therapy
Our physical therapists use some of the latest equipment/modalities including bicycles, upper body bikes, and much more.  Our programs are designed to improve balance, coordination, motion, strength and mobility.

Occupational Therapy/Hand Therapy
For people with hand, shoulder or elbow problems, occupational therapy helps to re-educate patients on the activities of daily living such as functional skills for self-care ie., bathing, dressing, meal preparation and shopping.  As part of our occupational therapy services, Olympia Medical Center offers a hand therapy program.  Our hands are vital and complex instruments used almost continuously for self-care, work and leisure.  Hand therapy improves function for many problems, including:

  • Repetitive strain problems, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylitis
  • Arthritis, tenosynovitis, ganglion cysts (pre or post operative conditions)
  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy and neurological limitations

Speech Therapy
In both the inpatient and outpatient settings, our speech language pathologists see patients with various neurological diagnoses; head and neck cancer; and voice disorders, who have difficulty communicating and/or thinking.  They develop treatment plans to improve speech, voice, listening; reading, writing, and cognitive (thinking) skills.

For patient with swallowing problems, we offer Videoflouroscopic Swallowing studies that further assess swallowing physiology and anatomy.  These studies also determine if and why a patient is aspirating.  Trial treatment strategies are employed during the study in order to recommend the least restrictive diet and the safest way for the patient to eat and drink.
